The Opus has retained the slim form typical of the GoGear range. This model comes with a large 2.8-inch TFT LCD which is crisp. The five-way navigation system is easy to use with the Option and Return keys placed close by. One of the issues we had with the GoGear PMPs is that it always seems like there’s more space for a larger screen. On the top are the volume keys and below is the key guard slider and mini USB port that allows for charging and data transfer. The bundled in-ear earphones are quite comfortable and provide excellent audio quality.
The GoGear range comes with Philips’ Full Sound audio engine that enhances the tonal quality to provide a much richer experience. The best part about the Opus is that it allows you to access the audio enhancing outpoints right from the Now Playing screen thanks to the quick access Options key. You can create playlists on the go and even set bookmarks so you can go back and resume from where you left off. The radio’s reception was quite good on an average. Philips has also included a microphone so you can use it as a dictaphone. The only problem is that the range isn’t too great.
Philips has included a host of software apps with the Opus for a variety of purposes. The media converter adapts video files for optimal viewing on Opus’ display. Converting videos is quite a speedy process. However, after conversion the quality of video files wasn’t to our liking. Videos were clear but the edges of objects on screen weren’t well defined. Photos look very crisp on the display but the slight jaggy edges are visible. The battery life on the GoGear Opus is not bad at all. It raked in almost 15 hours of non-stop audio playback. When it came to videos we watched two full length movies and still had a little juice left over for about 30 minutes of music.

Love:Good audio quality, decent battery life.
Hate: Video playback isn’t too great, the UI is a bit sluggish.
Verdict: A player with decent features, but average video playback.
